Based in Kidal in the extreme Northeast of Mali, the heart of Azawad, Amanar plays a contemporary version of the classic Tuareg guitar. Often referred to as the “desert blues” sound, Amanar is at the forefront of the modern avant-garde interpretation.

Thanks to Sahel Sounds' great Bandcamp Friday NYP campaign, thanks a lot, I was able to discover another great Touareg band. This kind of desert rock/blues really works great for me. They definitely deserve the same international success as their brethren (eg Tamikrest, Mdou Moctar...). Great songs, that are easily accessible to this pair of "western" ears :-)
